vehicular disillusionment

THE CAR AS A NECESSARY EVIL

We have found that the romance of the automobile has faded in recent years to the point where site design is less driven by vehicle accommodation. Home owners increasingly prefer cars and garage doors to be out of sight and are willing to take a longer walk to their entry doors in favor of a less prominent parking location. Institutions are also much more willing to park cars remotely to avoid large parking lots in the heart of their campuses. In urban locations it is recognized that any amount of parking will quickly be filled to capacity and that providing more parking invites more vehicles that add to vehicle congestion and other vehicle related ills. Many of our projects have included reclaiming vehicle oriented areas such as parking lots and roadways as open space.
