brown university peter green house

Providence, Rhode Island

The relocation of the Peter Green House was needed to clear the way for the new Brown Walk . The large house was moved a half block and rotated 90 degrees to front onto Brown Street. The relocated structure related better to the adjacent residential neighborhood and helped smooth the transition to larger academic building sites adjacent to the new greens at the block interior.

We designed the landscape setting for the relocated building which included a hedge located at the property edge as is typical of the neighborhood.  We also specified a traditional metal fence that framed the main entry. Other aspects of this landscape included providing accessibility to the building’s lower level and preserving a magnificent existing Beech tree.
